When feelings of overwhelm, boredom, and emptiness eclipse the things you once loved, feel better and reclaim the joy that fuels your passions with these simple methods.
Beauty will save the world.
Dostoevsky
Abby’s ponytail whipped around her head when she heard me call her name. “Oh, thank god!” she said as she picked up her coffee and walked toward me. “I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks.”
We tucked into a small table outside the café and faced the sun together. Abby placed her journal and pen on the table and stared into her coffee. She took a couple of deep breaths.
She tucked her sunglasses on the top of her head and opened her journal. She took her pen and tapped the center of the page. “It’s this right here,” she said, pointing to a question written in bold letters: “How can I feel so completely bored while also feeling overwhelmed and anxious and too damn busy?”
Abby pulled her hand down the length of her ponytail and smoothed her hair. “I feel like I have fallen out of love with everything and everyone in my life,” she said. “My business. Clients. Even my husband. I know the common denominator is me, though. Something feels broken inside of me.”
Abby’s story is an incredibly common one. When clients reach out to me for coaching, the subject of being burned out and bored comes up again and again. They want to feel better and aren’t sure where to start.
In our fast-paced, modern world, it’s easy for us to feel overwhelmed, burned out, and disconnected from the joy that once fueled our passion. The relentless pursuit of success can often lead to a sense of emptiness and boredom, leaving us wondering where the excitement and fulfillment have gone.
Take heart. There is a surprising path to rediscovering joy amidst the ennui and chaos. It begins with embracing beauty, seeking inspiration, and reintroducing play into your life.
How to Bring Back Your Mojo and Finally Feel Better
1. Surround Yourself with Beauty
When we take the time to surround ourselves with beauty in all its forms, our energy shifts.
Beauty has a profound effect on our well-being. Whether it’s admiring the vibrant colors of a sunrise, the intricate design of a piece of art, or the simple elegance of nature, beauty has the power to uplift our spirits (evoking feelings of joy, awe, and wonder) and rejuvenate our souls.
Immersing ourselves in beauty can ignite our creativity and imagination. Beauty encourages us to think expansively, inspiring innovative solutions and sparking creative expression in various forms.
Beauty has a calming effect on the mind and body, promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels. It encourages us to slow down, savor the present moment, and cultivate a sense of inner peace and tranquility.
2. Seek Inspiration
Inspiration—breathing in what brings us alive—is the spark that reignites our passion and creativity.
Inspiration is a powerful force that can transform our thoughts, emotions, and actions in profound ways. To feel better when you’re feeling burnt out, seek out sources of inspiration that resonate with you, whether it’s through reading books, listening to podcasts, attending workshops, connecting with like-minded individuals, or being with those you love.
When we’re inspired, our imagination flourishes. It encourages us to explore unconventional ideas, leading to breakthroughs and advancements in our entrepreneurial and creative endeavors.
When our inspiration tanks are topped off, we have the energy and drive to make a meaningful impact in the world. We feel better, so we do better. We no longer tolerate a mediocre existence and are eager to use our talents, resources, and influence to effect positive change and leave a lasting legacy.
3. Find Power in Play
The power of play extends far beyond amusement or entertainment.
Play is consistently overlooked in our modern lives, but it is essential for nurturing our sense of joy. We must make time for play in our daily routines, whether it’s through exploring new activities, going on adventures, or simply being open to spontaneity and fun.
Playfulness fosters a mindset of curiosity and exploration and encourages us to step outside of our comfort zones and embrace novel experiences. Through play, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our passions, and our capabilities, leading to greater confidence and happiness.
When life has lost its color, beauty, inspiration, and play serve as guiding lights, illuminating the path forward to feeling better and empowering us to overcome obstacles with resilience. By embracing each, we can rediscover the joy that fuels our passion and reclaim a sense of fulfillment and purpose that brightens every corner of our once-lackluster lives.
